WASHINGTON –The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday approved a long-acting tadalafil (Tadalafil) prescription for men who are having erection problems.
The prescription drug, sold under the brand name Cialis, is currently approved to treat erectile dysfunction in about 60 men. The prescription drug has been available since the approval of the drug for more than a year.
The approval came on the heels of a major health advisory panel that found no benefit to the drug’s side effects. The drug does, however, carry a boxed warning on its label.
According to the F. D. A.’s website, it should not be used by men who have sex with men (MSM) or anyone who can’t get or keep an erection.
The panel voted 18-3 to approve the drug, which was used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
The FDA said the drug is not approved for use as a sex drug for recreational use. It also says that it may interact with the following drugs:
